Lifeguard

The Daytona Beach lifeguard on duty swam to rescue a guy flapping his hands in the ocean, thought he was  drowning not realizing that the guy is Deaf, signing to his girlfriend on shore. The lifeguard wasn't taking any chances due to recent sightings of sharks in the area, but the incident prompt him to learn ASL in the fall at a local college

Stephen Goforth

Stephen Goforth is a former anchor at CNN, winning numerous award including the prestige Edward R. Murrow for his coverage around the world from natural disasters to terrorism. Stephen also a professor of journalism, getting his master degree from the American University which is part of a consortium that includes Gallaudet. He owns the 'Deaf News Today' website. Deaf Anthology major competitor, not realizing that he's a hearing individual all these year, having rack up a couple million views in that time frame. The only differences between us two is that he focused on the news while I focused on the entertainment aspect. I met a CNN reporter during the Bernie Sanders rally back in 2016, he gave me a CNN Political lanyard which I wear nowadays to hold my household keys. I visited the site of the Olympic Park in Atlanta, seen the CNN headquarters in the distance. It's still on my bucket list to return to tour CNN when this pandemic is over. I enjoy the CNN Headlines news but I broaden myself to watch foreign news such as NHK, DW, BBC as well as several newspapers like the New York Times, which my late Deaf brother was a linotypist, and the Washington Post, etc. When travelling abroad, pick up a copy of the International Herald Tribune at newsstands. Deaf Anthology is now revising old posts and bring it up to date in a new format so it appears that Stephen doing the same with Deaf News Today, seeking feedbacks.

Contemporary Affairs

 

The Contemporary Affairs high school teacher at Rippowam requires us all to study the Sundays' New York Times, but it's too thick as I ain't got the time to read it all, so I bought the thinner Daily News which is full of pictures and takes only a few minutes to read, just enough information to pass a quiz given every Wednesdays.  

Deaf Anthology encourages superintendents to invest in our Deaf youths by participating  in the local Newspaper In Education programs where every individual Deaf child wakes up in the morning, picking up and reading a newspaper delivered to their dorm rooms. PTA can fund these worthwhile projects.

Lake Geneva

World's famous Deaf magician, Magic Morgan, recently opens his very own "Little Magic Theatre" in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, drawing tourists from all around the world, performing to sold out crowds. Lake Geneva is a destination in itself, plenty of sightseeing, shopping, and food in the area.

Deaf Fishermen

Two Deaf Canadians were fishing that peaceful afternoon on Red Lake, Ontario
only to be interrupted unexceptionally by an approaching flying seaplane.

Deaf Fortress

Florida legislation passed a bill allowing public school teachers to be armed but I opposed that idea as I just can't imagine being fearful of our teachers and dormitory supervisors if we ever misbehave. Our Deaf schools are becoming a fortress. They should allow us to pray that we don't get shot for refusing to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, or making our beds. Our nation uses nuclear weapons as a deterrent to keep peace, that's great but we may be tempted to use guns for discipline rather than using it as a deterrent in protecting our Deaf kids from senseless violence.

The Bachelor

Abigail Heringer was just eliminated despite receiving  the first rose Matt James. I thought the chemistry was there. They never dated together so obviously James having second thoughts. There are a couple of theories out there, James perception that her deafness will be a burden or Abigail was kept for ratings sake.

Grace Coolidge

Grace, a teacher of the deaf, married Calvin Coolidge who later became our President. 

President Calvin Coolidge's signature on Gallaudet degrees.

 

Helen Keller was invited to the White House to meet the President family and Rebecca, their mischievous pet raccoon.

Hell's Kitchen

Maybe I ought to go to audition to get on Hell's Kitchen, being Deaf has it advantages where Gordon Ramsey will only be yelling at my ASL interpreter, leaving me in peace. 

This menu wasn't made from scratch, it was created using leftovers, the sights and smells makes it tasty. Onion baguette with chipotle grape tomatoes. Sweet red chili elbows and apple cinder salad.

David Letterman

My sister's friend's husband is a police officer who once caught David Letterman speeding in New Canaan, Connecticut. Anyway, they met up once again at a local gas station during a thunderstorm  and David Letterman agrees to sign his autograph if he be willing to pump the gas into his tank, even if it meant getting soaking wet standing out there in the rain. We had an "interpreter issue" on the Late Night set at NBC and their producer offer us to sit in the guest room with, of all people, Richard Simmons. Yes, Richard send me a letter encouraging me to lose some weight.

The Late Show once had an intern from Gallaudet during one semester.

Thanks, Dave, I can now hit the sack earlier!

Auto Repairs

My Deaf friend complains about his auto repair bills, he bought his vehicle to several shops to check on that clunky noise that he felt when going around the corners, the mechanic took it out for a test drive and immediately found the cause using electronic dialogistic equipment, and gave estimates, costing hundreds of dollars and replacing critical parts and doing a tune-up. 

Then again, he feel the clunky noise after leaving the shop. I told him to check the trunk, and remove that bowling ball and put it away. That solves the problem.

Once, I thought something wrong, feeling the vibrations, bought it to shop to be told there is nothing wrong, just radio static, so I turned it off, feeling embarrassed. 

A reputable mechanic wouldn't charge you, not take advantage of you.

You can't trust anyone nowadays!

The Gallaudet security guards always wave me in on campus after fingerspelling NTID.

Yosra El Lozy

Yosra El Lozy, an Egyptian actress does not tolerate any trolls on her social media site that post insensitive comments about her deaf daughter. As a mother, she immediately confront them, correcting them to use the proper terms, Deaf and hard of hearing.

Lozy is an advocate for detection of hearing loss in newborns so that she could get the proper support services, education and assimilation into the society being an independent productive citizen.

Goldfinger

You remember that movie "Goldfinger" starring Sean Connery as James Bond and wondering what in the title comes from, the author Ian Fleming probably noticed theses new tall skyscrapers going up around him while in London, they were designed by a Hungarian architect, Goldfinger, I thought it was a fictional character, and as a second thought, those skyscrapers aren't made of gold anyway, so why not "Steelfinger." I saw the Aston Martin DB5 sports car at the New York Auto Show.
