Bill Cosby

Commentary I met Bill Cosby in the lobby at the Jefferson Hotel located four blocks from the White House during the DeafWay event at Gallaudet . He was in town to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom and that was long before sexual allegations surfaced. Congress took actions and passed a bill to allow the President to revoke the award to future recipients.  I've given him a bubblehead from the Milwaukee Brewers just that hosted the MLB All Star game at their new Miller Park.
Anyway, a woman accuses "America's Dad" of sexual assaults which the comedian denied. A civil lawsuit was filed and the case was settled which involves a payout for services rendered. There  were an agreement, although unwritten, that the state will not prosecute Cosby during his deposition which incriminates himself. The agreements between the parties was confidential and undisclosed, often without the defendant admission of guilt on the matter, The New York Times somehow got hold of the disposition and publishes all the details, they are more reliable than the tabloids. If you're rich, you can afford silence but your reputation is shot. The only problem with the civil case is that Bill Cosby incriminate himself, not exercising his rights to plead the fifth amendment, letting his guard down thinking that nothing serious will ever happen down the road. Unfortunately, a new district attorney decided to go ahead and prosecuted him using the evidences from the disposition just before the statue of limitation expires. In Pennsylvania, it's twelve years but I think that it should be limited to ten years like most states. We don't have uniform laws across state lines. One state you get a citation for smoking weeds but in another state it's life imprisonment. Bill Cosby was persecuted, not prosecuted by an district attorney that may have political ambitions. The comedian was convicted and sentenced up to ten years in prison. It's a mockery of justice when one's right to due process was denied and the state supreme court took a note of that and overturn the conviction and set him free to return to his family waiting outside the walls. We live in a society where criminals have more rights than the victims. Many women came forward and felt betrayed. It's their words against his who can you believe nowadays. I remember a bus in an accident, sixty passengers filed a lawsuit claiming whiplash injuries, hold it right there, something fishy going on, the bus can only hold forty passengers, not sixty. It's possible that some of the women who came forward never even met Bill Cosby in the first place. Only in America you can live off litigations and many of them  are frivolous. If you want to prosecute an old man, take away his Viagra pills and that is more effective than letting him doing stand up comedy at taxpayers' expenses. The purpose of prisons is rehabilitation, not public storage facilities. Cosby could have been paroled but he refuses to participate in sex offenders program while maintaining his innocence.

The conclusion is this, Bill Cosby is guilty in the eyes of public opinion, I doubt he'll ever be forgiven.

This is Smokey stay tuned for the next episode of Deaf Anthology, Good Night Deaf America!
