Audism Anonymous

Audism Anonymous is a new group therapy sessions that is  led by a Deaf psychotherapist that follows the same twelve steps program Our goals is getting them to understand how oppression affects us all. It's difficult to break our addiction to alcohol, drugs and tobacco so the same is true in changing our attitudes toward the opposite sex, race, nationality, religion and the disabled, including us Deaf. Discrimination still exist despite the efforts of our civil rights movement, ADA and our Deaf advocates on the front-lines. Prejudice is within us, blaming it on the environment that we grown up with. The program requires encounters with Deaf individuals, learning ASL and our Deaf culture, attending lectures from  speakers from various organization.   The program is similar to those sensitivity training programs within our workplace. The first step, of course, toward recovery is to admit that we are audist. Patients are required to gain acceptance among the Deaf before they are released from the program. Check the yellow pages for the local Audism Anonymous group in your area.
