Silent Child

                                                  Silent Child (United Kingdom)

The Silent Child (United Kingdom) was one of the five Oscar nominated short films, all of which I have seen at a local independent "art house" theatre. The Silent Child is about Libby, an undisciplined four years old Deaf girl living in a world of silence with a middle class hearing family that doesn't know how to deal with her until a social worker taught her to communicate in sign language. It went on to win an Oscar.
I give this film "Silent Child" a Thumb Up!.

The Stand

Deaf are boycotting the Stephen King's "The Stand" CBS miniseries for their controversial casting of a hearing actor in a Deaf role.
Deaf Anthology Polls is a new feature where you can actively participate to express your opinion.
The votes will be tabulated and its results of the poll will be posted next month.

Deaf Havana

I noticed that when hearing musicians set up a group, uses the word "Deaf" in the name of their rock band, like the British own Deaf Havana which came out with their "Sing" video showing a graffiti artist skateboarding across town paint spraying  the word "sing" in various language. If these rockers are actually Deaf themselves they would do it differently, paint spraying the word "Sign," that is enough to bridge the gap, breaking down communication barriers around the world.
The video contains no closed-captions so their lyrics are posted below, I challenge the Deaf Havana to perform live in front of a Deaf audience so we can feel the vibrations, and the musicians themselves learn sign language, not relied on interpreters, and redo the video, changing its title to "Sign,"  so let's sign and sing.

I wasn't striving for jealousy but I always looked good in green
And the things that I wanted I had all along, I was just too stubborn to see
And we all just sing along, try to struggle on
'Cause we need it, yeah we need it
We all just sing along, try to right the wrongs
'Cause we mean it, yeah we mean it
And I could have moved on faster but I'm still stuck
On the past and the things we'd do
'Cause I heard you bought a house last month
Well good for fucking you
And we all just sing along, try to struggle on
'Cause we need it, yeah we need it
We all just sing along, try to right the wrongs
'Cause we mean it, yeah we mean it
We're gonna sing, like we mean it
We're gonna sing, like we mean it
'Cause I mean it this time
I know I took it for granted
But I hope I can change my mind!
And we all just sing along, try to struggle on
'Cause we need it, yeah we need it
We all just sing along, try to right the wrongs
'Cause we mean it, yeah we mean it
And we're gonna sing, like we mean it
('Cause we mean it, yeah we mean it)
We're gonna sing, like we mean it
('Cause we mean it, yeah we mean it)
Like we mean it

Recreation Sports

A new Deaf alternative sports organization are now forming teams across the country, dividing them into regional division, and sanctioning national championship. The only requirement is that the teams consists of Deaf players that are committed to playing a variety of sports in the same league. In the past, it's usually a Deaf organization will field several teams, one for each sports, now it's one team playing several sports. It's a challenge as each sports requires a different level of skills, and the Deaf players has to put up with a lot of pressures as the sports changes quarterly. The Deaf leagues start off the new season this coming spring taking on Bubble Soccer. The new Deaf sports organization committee are still working on its by-laws, in process of obtaining an IRS non-profit tax exemption, and planning on selecting a sport for the summer quarter. They planning on seeking corporate sponsorship of its events, media coverage, and will soon vote on the proposal that the organization be known as DRSL (Deaf  Recreational Sports League) with its first general meeting held this winter in Milwaukee to elect officers, recruit coaches and referees. Membership information at 555-800-DRSL.

Trumper

Thumper is an animated rabbit character in Disney's "Bambi" which gives me an idea that our President needs a nickname, Trumper, because both got something in common where Thumper has a  habit off thumping his left hind foot while Trumper has a habit of "trumping"  his right hand to get everyone attention.

Abracadabra

During WWII, the US Navy has a barge that makes only ice cream, its storage holds 2,000 gallons. After the sinking of the USS Lexington at Coral Seas, sailors raided the refrigerators for ice cream before jumping overboard.

President Thomas Jefferson brought the first ice cream to America from France.
The original recipe is now in the Library of Congress.
I remember the Good Humor truck coming into my neighborhood during the summer months.
