During WWII, the US Navy has a barge that makes only ice cream, its storage holds 2,000 gallons. After the sinking of the USS Lexington at Coral Seas, sailors raided the refrigerators for ice cream before jumping overboard.
President Thomas Jefferson brought the first ice cream to America from France.
The original recipe is now in the Library of Congress.
