This is the famous painting of Washington Crossing the Delaware to attack the Hussians during the American Revolution. Hussians are German mercenaries fighting on behalf of the British. The interesting thing about this painting was that it was painted in Germany by Leutze. The original painting was destroyed during the British bombing raid in World War II. James Monroe is the one holding the flag.
