The CODA Concepts

Liam O'Dell, a British Blogger criticizes the CODA film that was just release in the theatres without understanding its concept, jumping into conclusion that it's about the Deaf. That is where he got it all wrong, in fact it's all about music, singing it, dancing to it, whatever. It's just that the movie storyline has  Deaf characters, it's nothing more to that. It's a mainstream film about the world we live  that appeal to the general public, not just another documentary to educate us about our struggles, languages and cultures. Marlee Matlin got it right, "we are not Deaf actors," a quote from last week Hollywood Reporter. Look at the posters of these Coda films - they are all about music.
The first definition of the word, CODA, is that the subject matter involves music. Apparently Liam O'Dell is unaware of that.

The second definition of the word, CODA, is the conclusion of a series. Apparently Liam O'Dell doesn't know about that either.
The last film (CODA)  of the Godfather triology

The last album (CODA) of the British rock group, Led Zeppelin, after the death of its drummer, John Bonham.

The third definition, of course, CODA which is also Child of Deaf Adults. Apparently that is what Liam O'Dell  only understands.

There are thousands, if not hundreds, of Coda stories out there in every cultures around the world and I ain't going to waste my time with an ignorant British blogger whose viewpoints are irrelevant.
Here is a short CODA film, in case you miss it.

I've seen the French version of CODA  (La Famille Belier) on way to Milan, Italy on Emirates.
La Famille Belier, the French "CODA" version trailer.
In Europe, hearing actors often plays the Deaf characters, not so here in America as we Deaf are breaking grounds in Hollywood.

Liam O'Dell, you ain't no film critic, so keep on limping!

This is Smokey stay tuned for the next episode of Deaf Anthology, Good Night Deaf America!
