Gallaudet just announced this morning that it completed the search for its new Dean of Student Affairs position, selecting the best qualified candidate to fit our changing campus demographic needs. In the past we had the majority of our students are from state Deaf schools but nowadays most of them are from mainstreamed schools. Our mission have changed over the years, from instructions in ASL to adapting to the students needs, providing oral interpreters, notetakers, ESL for foreigners and accepting a few hearing students to fill in the gap.
I was shocked that Alexandra Graham Bell was selected as the new Dean of Students of Gallaudet, thought he was dead. Our Stargate portal, designed by a Deaf engineering student, allows us to time travel between the past and the future. Alexandra was given a glimpse of the future, was invited to tour the campus when he learn of an opening and applied for it. Since there were no other candidates, he got the job. Alexandra learns of his legacy and was remorseful and seeks to rectified his positions.
"I wouldn't mess with God, wouldn't you?"
Alexandra Graham Bell
Alexandra was upset to learn that they are mandating cochlear-implants instead of voluntary speech therapy and plans to shut down the Volta Bureau to restore his reputation.
"NAD serves everyone, we don't need division, we can unite work together."
Alexandra Graham Bell
Anyway, despite the controversially surrounding its choice, Alexandra will be the oldest administrator in Gallaudet history, of being born before its existence is something of an achievement. Deaf student leaders, faculty and staff will give Alexandra the benefit of doubts.
This is Smokey stay tuned for the next episode of Deaf Anthology, Good Night Deaf America.
