Thomas Clerc is the first Deaf Starfleet officer to helm the new Galaxy-Class USS Martha Vineyard (NCC-1864) scheduled to be commissioned next week at the Ramatis Spacedock where Riva will be among those in attendance to witness the historic event. Freelance hologram interpreters will be on site, they are fluent in various sign languages throughout the universe, including ASL. Thomas Clerc graduated from the Gallaudet extension center on Deep Space 9 where retired Spock serves as his mentor, sharing his wisdom and experiences abroad the Enterprise. You can visit the interior of the iconic Enterprise at the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum in Washington, DC. Martha Vineyard has a significant role in our culture where Deaf refugees were rescued from their planet in the path of an asteroid settled there. The planet is unique as having an atmosphere that lacks sounds. 
You can meet Thomas Clerc at Deaf Worlds Expo 22 on Kronos where he will be signing his new book, "Pah!," a biography of his turbulence life, recalling his deviant childhood of stealing a drone, skipping school to explore space. His story is also featured in the Jack R. Gannon Deaf Heritage 2485 edition now available.
