Marlee Matlin is once again back at Disney World here in Orlando for the annual candlelight processional, being a narrator for the "Greatest Story Ever Told," with the colorful choir singing in the background, and the musicians led by a conductor. Marlee signing in ASL, was voiced by her interpreter, Jack while the songs are translated into ASL, as well as the French, German, and Spanish sign language by Angela, giving it an international flavor. The tickets for all three shows, at 5,6:45, and 8:15 were all gone by mid-afternoon. However, a couple of rows on the right side is roped off, reserved for the Deaf, the Deaf doesn't need a ticket (actually a sticker tag) anyway. I advised the Deaf to watch the 8:15 show because the Illumination, lasers and fireworks, at World Showcase starts promptly at 9:30 pm. The skies are clear, along with the quarter moon, giving us a chilly snap but the music will warmth us all as we huddled together signing along in harmony, with an occasional rounds of applause of wavering hands in the air. Even if you don't hear, you can feel the holiday spirits. These Deaf youngster look up to Marlee as a role model, realizing their dreams are within reach. Excitements builds up as the sunset in the horizon, as the spotlight set afoot on stage. Marlee Matlin is here until Friday, December 30.

Here's a few tips, best to take the boat from the BoardWalk resort to Epcot, two reasons, to avoid the crowds, and afterwards you can enjoy the various entertainment there or go over to the Disney Hollywood Studios to see the whole place lighted up.

If you are hungry, be sure to get a reservation to eat at the Italian pavilion, here is my review:
Just read an article from newspaper that the Bistro de Paris at Epcot was voted the best theme park restaurant so I decided to try it out myself, first of all, it's located upstairs at the french pavilion at World Showcase, easy access using the boat from the Broadwalk resort. Got a window seat, so it would be perfect to watch Illumination, but you'll need reservation. I been seeing all these chefs on TV, but this is the real dining experience, so my advice is to give up a few McDonald's outing to be able to afford the three course menu which will setup back $49, and that's without wine. First got myself the la Villa French lemonade, Jocelyn was my waiter, took the time out to described everything on my plate, writing notes. They treat the Deaf well, so you better leave a 18% tip. Here's what I had, keeping the notes to key into this blog.
"This is compliment of the chef; cauliflower soup (ditto) cream. If there is a (ditto), it just meant that I can't read French handwriting. Oh, yes, bread is included, just watch them pour water, isn't that something.
This is your "soupe basquaise" with croutons with olive oil and pesto."
Bon appetit.
Here is the main course:
"This is your beef tenderloin, with bordelaise sauce (made with bordeaux wine), and mushrooms on the top.
On the side you have potato mousseline. On the bottom a sauce made with poto wine and balsamic, on top cocoa powder. Bon appetit"
And finally,
"This is your '(ditto) au choolat' with vanilla ice cream and praline cream."
I am giving it a thumb up, these chefs, they are artists, and I really appreciate their attention to details.
At the resort, when you check in, ask for an ASL interpreter schedule printout as they rotate, the Magic Kingdom tomorrow and Epcot on Friday. If you are staying during the weekend, the interpreters will be at the Animal Kingdom on Saturday and the Disney's Hollywood Studios on Sunday. If you can't stand in long lines, for medical reasons, obtain a disabled pass from the guest relations upon entrance to the parks.
I would recommend Marlee Matlin stay on the Club Level at the Wilderness Lodge as they got excellent food prepared there, which I enjoy accommodating a Deaf family from Kentucky, arranging them to participate in the flag raising ceremonies on the rooftop. She is more likely to stay at the Yacht & Beach Club (I'm speculating) as it's the only place where the pool is off-limit to the public, must obtain a wristband from a lifeguard, allowing privacy if Marlee needs a suntan. Also it's known for its "Kitchen Sink," all eight scoops of ice cream. The only resort inaccessible is the Treehouse Villages at the Saratoga Springs resort as there is no public spaces. Treehouse Villages once housed International staff here on a two-years work visa.
While at Epcot, you wouldn't want to miss the popular attractions such as Test Tracks, Soaring', etc.
As for myself, I'll be at the Mexican pavilion tomorrow taking in a relaxing boat ride with Donald starring in the Three Caballero, maybe meet a few Deaf snowbirds, also will be praying for a warm Gulf stream.

As for New Year's Eve, maybe a few drinks at the Turf Club at the Saratoga Springs resort, watching the ball drops in Times Square on the stroke of midnight, billiard anyone?

Just to let you in a tip, that they are giving away a million books on Saturday night, April 23, 2012, and they need people to help distribute them to encourage us Americans to read. I'm all for it, so I applied on their website, filling out three questionnaires regarding location, targeted audience, and as to why I think it's a worthwhile cause. The participating authors will forgo their normal royalties. When checking out their website, just be sure it's American, as you know, the British are in it, too. I hope the Deaf are not left out in the cold, wouldn't it be great, getting the books into Deaf schools facing budget cuts, creating monthly gathering of the Deaf discussing the book.

I intend to give away books at a Deaf Coffee Chat, a monthly social event that Deaf from all over central Florida area meet at a local Starbucks here in Orlando. It's perfect because we Deaf always have our gathering on a Saturday night.

I believe in diversity, that the Deaf be included in the annual World Book night, and encourage the Deaf to read various books, which may also improve their English skills as American Sign Language (ASL) is our primary language. I hope that the monthly Deaf Coffee Chat will become a place where we have an opportunity to discuss the book, and share our opinions. Most of the Deaf lives on SSI and unable to afford the books, so I think it's a great project. Thank you for letting us Deaf participate in this worthwhile cause.

Closing remarks, if you participate, be sure it's distributed to the general Deaf population, a high school dormitory supervisor commitment to distribute them to the seniors is more likely to be approved than a than a school librarian. The books are not intended to be on shelves in a school library, rather be in the hands of the Deaf to take them home.

The most common abuses on Deafread is when a non-blogger leaves a comment, using a non-existence (or inactive) screen name. Deaf Anthology recognizes only those that are identifiable. There are Deaf that leaves comments but never posted a single blog.
Just recently one left a comment that I should stop whining about my meager SSI and get a job at Disney World. This same guy left comments on other blogs suggesting that "deafness" is not a disability, therefore we ought to be disqualified in receiving any form of government handouts such as SSDI. The person in question is a Floridian and was last seen on a scooter, wearing a helmet. You may run into him on a hiking trail, so easy to track him down. Also he switched to ZVRS after being dissatisfied with rival Sorenson. Apparently he also endorses a product using its screen-name. Plenty of evidences left on Deafread to develop a profile. He misunderstood my blog, forgetting to read the disclaimer. Clarification, my blog only discussed the effects of gas prices on people, including us Deafies with fixed income, where they had to choose between putting bread on the table, taking their pills, and transportation, etc. I'll let him get away with it this time, being humble and laughing at the potshots.

Deafies monthly SSI checks are eaten up by the rising gas prices that affect us all, sooner or later, we wouldn't be able to go to Deaf bowling tournament, Deaf cruises, and if the economy worsen, they may be forced to cancel Deafnation Expos, due to lack of attendances. "I'm not going to Disney World," may be the new reality.

I remember pumping gas, being only 35 cents, on Florida Avenue as a student at Gallaudet, before the Arab oil boycott (circa 1973), after the Yom Kippur war.
One of these days Gallaudet students will need scholarships for gas as it may be more expensive than tuition, there is now way you can confined them to campus.Perhaps Gallaudet parking meters can be the funding source.

We Deafies often don't have an opportunity to see a good foreign film, sticking with Hollywood releases with digital open-captions.Now I got to somehow convince you Deafies out there to be open-minded give it a chance, now I want to introduce you to "Flowers of War," directed by Zhang Yimou, a story of an American priest, protecting the schoolgirls from being raped by Japanese soldiers in Naking during World War II. It was Steven Spielberg that recommended Christian Bale for the role which I think was a natural choice as he got his first break as a child in "Empire of the Sun." it's the most expensive film ever produced in Chinese history and I felt it'll win the Oscar for best foreign film. Another thing is that it's subtitled so we Deafies can return to the silver screen to see an action-packed genre.

The NBA is in negotiation with Gallaudet about the possibilities of its Bison basketball team playing in its All-Star game at the Amway arena in Orlando, replacing the pros, during the lockout. The reasoning is that the NBA wanted a team that can't hear the fans yelling "Scabs." The only thing that is preventing an agreement is that they must let the Harlem Globetrotters win. Deaf fans will each received an Amway product as part of the deal. NBA is so desperate that they will donate a skybox at Washington Wizards games for Hurwitz usage to close a deal.

Imagine all your life savings disappeared overnight, when you trust someone on Wall Street, a billionaire living in a penthouse about you in a building where you work, to handle your pension fund. Don't believe him if he tells you that investment is a risky business when you know that he stole every penny from you.
The Deaf film critic is back reviewing the latest open-captioned (OC) film, "Tower Heist," with Ben Stiller as the manager and Eddie Murphy, the petty thief hired to teach us to recovered the $20M or so. The FBI been after him, but couldn't pin him down, the safe is empty, where is the heck the money, paper trails, none whatsoever. Tower Heist is one of a few comedy that I actually laugh in a theatre. You probably already heard that Eddie Murphy changed his mind in hosting the Oscar in support of a friend, accused of a racial slur, who also happens to be the director of the film.
Anyway, once again, stealing Ebert trademark, I give it a thumb up!

Michael Moore may never be forgiven for his remarks at the Oscar against the President who lost the popular vote (I still blame the Floridians), who ought to be evicted from the White House, but still hiding behind the bushes.
The Deafbookworm is back reviewing a new book, "Here Comes Trouble," No, it has nothing to do with the drama at DVTV. Thought it's interesting that "Michael & I" share the same upbringings, he attend a Catholic school, me working at one, being Irish, Middle-Class, and liberal, even we are the same age. If only I can go to his upcoming book signing in Miami, would've asked him if I can join his next project as a Deaf publicist that ignored the media, the Seals will protect him, and the press be bewildered, wondering how to get an interview through me, yes, you got to learn how to use that damn relay, like it or not. Seriously, I'll jump at an opportunity to work with him, any production jobs, like clapping the clipboard, will do.
"Here Comes Trouble" is actually a biography of his life from conception to confronting corporations.
Just imagine you getting a letter from yourself on Death Row. A little bit of history here and there, no mention of a horse thief in the family. We learn that the Indians were almost wipe out with the diseases the settlers spread. His father was the last to fought in a war that had no draft dodgers, protest on campuses. Michael, like Martin Socress, given up any thoughts of priesthood,
attracted to the silver screen, becoming known for his provoking documentaries. Also a bit about his experiences on the school board that got our attention. Basically we can expect a sequel when he start bugging the CEO of GM, Michael shown us that he cares about us Americans, dealing with all the issues as we are struggling to keep a bread on the table.
I'm a big fan of TVnation (as well as Deafnation), especially the episode I'm aware of, not being able to swim at a beach in Greenwich. Without disclosing all the materials, I recommend everybody buys his book to keep him on the best-sellers list. Stealing Ebert trademark, I'm giving it a thumb up!

Bill Keane, creator of Family Circus, died recently. I remember Sr. Margaret P. at St. John's School for the Deaf showing me materials she use in teaching second, third graders reading using the characters from the comics. Family Circus is copyright but Bill Keane given her permission to develop instructional tools. Also she shown me a letter from Bill Keane himself. I was wondering if those original materials still exist, or taught in any Deaf schools. If so, maybe someone who has them can donate them to the Gallaudet archives, to preserved our Deaf heritage, they are probably so valuable that I wouldn't want to see them sold on eBay to cartoon museums, or get into the hands of a collector. I don't know if there is any Deaf in Bill Keane's family but did find one comic that indicated that perhaps Dolly is Deaf in one ear. Anyway, Jeff, his son, will continue drawing the Family Circus for our generations to enjoy. In addition, I visited the Cartoon Museum that Mort Walker, creator of Beetle Bailey, established in Rye, New York. However, I assume that they were unable to raise enough money to move to another location, so all the materials are now stored in a library at the Ohio State University.

First of all, as of 11 am (EST) today, 179 vloggers left comments on the Holism vlog on DVTV, 123 were blocked. leaving only the 53 vloggers with responses that Holism wants to hear. Holism reply 68 times even though there are 53 vloggers. Most vloggers leave one or two, but 68 times is going over the hill. Holism should also be known as the Pied Piper of Deafread, leading his rats into the sewer, all drowned from delusion.

Holism tends to practice New Age philosophy, looking at the Deaf world as a whole, when in reality causes fragmentation, in reality the mind is basically reductionism biologically.

I did leave my comments on his vlog on DVTV, but was declined, what can you expect from an audist who follow in the footstep of a South African white supremacist who coined the term, Holism, and practiced by the Nazis in WWII, to eliminate the Jews, only nowadays Deafhood is part of Holism final solution.

OK, let's go into the concept of illusion, it is how the brain perceived through our senses, take this as an experiment, get a tube and hold it looking through it and cover your other eye with your hand. You are seeing an illusion of a hold in your hand.

Ever watch a mime, you are actually watching an illusion of him walking while being steady.

As per my comment, the Holism popularity on Deafread/DVTV is his controversial viewpoints, causing us Deafies to tune in to see what's the hell is that all about, Deafies love gossips, and seeing splats between Holism and the Deafhood franchise, just like my experiences with the "Last Temptation of Christ," directed by Martin Socress, which causes many Christians to oppose the screenings, they didn't succeed because it caused the gentiles to check it out, I think it's nothing so what's the big deal. The public complained about National Endowment of the Arts of wasting your tax dollars on controversial project as having an American flag on the floor in a museum that you must walk over to read the description, maybe finding out who the artist and then lynching him. Holism can experience cyberlynching painlessly. Even censorship is an illusion, an effort to imposed moralism at the expenses of our freedoms. Marlee will be signing (hopefully)/singing at the American Gardens Theatre (EPCOT) at Walt Disney World this coming holiday season, December 28-30, so mark or cross out your calendar. Done this, done that, anything but not the national anthem. She will be appearing with Jack Sparrow, oops, I meant Jack Jason, once again dragged into the spotlight. What's the big deal, well, it's the annual Candlelight Processional. How the hell Marlee going to sign while holding a candle, that I did like to see. Don't expect any ASL interpreters there, as Disney normally don't provide any ASL interpreters at their special events, unless you requested them at least two weeks in advance, maybe it's unreasonable, but that's the policy. Otherwise you'll be left with Nemo, the turtle who has his own ASL interpreter a few minutes on Tuesdays and Fridays.
There will be ample opportunities for Deaf children to ask the old man from the North Pole (not Minneapolis), Santa Claus (hope he can sign ASL, if not signing autographs) at Downtown Disney, for a used pairs of abandoned hearing-aids (...batteries not included) dumped at the local Lions Club.
Anyway, I challenge Rick Mizell, musical director, to include a Deaf high school choir in its assembly, from the state (FSD) and local (mainstreamed) public schools. If they are not available, give Martin Keller, a Deaf high school Principal at the New York State School for the Deaf (Fanwood) of White Plains, a call. Their Deaf kids already had the experiences of sign/singing at the Yankees stadium, and be treated well viewing the game afterwards from a skybox. Let them walk down the Main Street at the Magic Kingdom, an adventure of a lifetime denied to the Oregon Deaf kids who walk up the Mall of America.
I also challenge Rick Mizell, the musical director, to include the local Deaf churches into your choir, why should the hearing (the "normals") be having all the fun, while we Deafies are sitting at home watching the parade on Christmas day fumbling. Well, you can give Deaf Pastor Kevin Hamilton of the Grace Deaf Presbyterian Church in Danville, Kentucky, a call. He can put together a Deaf choir at a moment notice, praise the Lord!
In addition, you should let Deaf cast members (employees) to participate, they spend all these years working for peanuts (mind you), it's about time to show them your appreciation, they envied their co-workers getting promotions, while be left in the dark. It's about time you treat them with respect.
Deaf tourists, there are plenty of activities going on during the holidays, go to their website for further information.
As for Marlee Matlin, I challenge you to the "Kitchen Sink" ice cream competition at the Disney's Yacht & Beach Club or a game of miniature golf "Winter Summerland" at Disney's Blizzard Beach.

As for Mickey Mouse, wouldn't you let me stay a night in Cinderella's Castle suite, it's on my bucket list.

Kokonut Pundit childhood was a nightmare, always being picked on in the schoolyard, longing to be accepted by his Deaf peers. In the winter, a gang of Deaf kids tricked Kokonut Pundit to accepted the "Double Dog Dare You!" challenge. Kokonut Pundit thought all he had to do, of all things, is to lick the frozen flagpole in order to gain acceptances. When recess is over, the teacher noticed an empty desk , called the local fire department to free Kokonut Pundit's tongue. The Deaf children were laughing at Kokonut Pundit for being so vulnerable to such antics. Kokonut Pundit, feeling betrayed, understandable seek revenge.
Deaf Anthology thinks that we are using "Double Standards" like a religion, trying to convert each other into their ideological mode, wasting our lives debating like politicians, creating a circus atmosphere where the world can see what a bunch of fools we are.

The local Lions Club been under siege, unable to dispose of of used hearing-aids as there were no-takers. Mickey Mouse got an earful, receiving several letters from upset Deaf children at the Oregon School for the Deaf that were upset that their hearing peers get to spend a week at Disney World. It's a year ago, that Extreme Home Makeover build a new dormitory on their campus, in addition to making their annual Halloween fund-raising event a bit creepier. Here's a sample of letters the Deaf children wrote;
"We all wanted to go to Disney World and all we got are these lousy hearing-aids"
"My parents couldn't even afford the replacement batteries."
"I'll rather meet Snow White, not Marlee Matlin."
"Our Orlando bound jet were hijacked to Minneapolis."
"I am Deaf, not hard-of hearing."
"Ty doesn't care about us, just the Nielsen ratings.
"You let hearing children having a good time on vacation while we are miserable outfitted with those damn hearing-aids."
"ABC, A Bad Charity"
"We should flatten those bus tires."
and the best letter of them all:
"Take these hearing-aids and shove it!"
Deaf Anthology felt that these Deaf children from the Oregon School for the Deaf deserves a trip to Disney World in Florida, not to be manipulated.

Yes, Candy, the two blogs were about you, the first one is about a candy factory (re: blog #529)in Racine, the second blog is based on a Sammy Davis' song "Candyman," (re: blog # 889) the lyrics in it was about people dying looking in a mirror, an urban legend in the projects of Chicago. Joe asked about my intentions, I think it's still there.
As issues with Kokonut Pundit (re: blog # 749" was about how in the past that those with some degree of residual hearing is classified as Deaf and yet has the ability to speak.The second is related to the death of Deafread (re: blog # 968) if we allows audists to dominate the agendas. As for Holism, most are reaction to his criticism of Gallaudet, D/d, Deafhood, DBC, etc. I assume there been a half dozens or so, he has a right to his opinion, but there has to be a line drawn somewhere, we been on the same issues over and over again, so I turn the table on Holism about Catholicism, White Supremacist Jan Smuts, and holism of the Aryan race in Nazi Germany.You can't talk to a brick wall, Holism maintains that the concept exists since Greek philosophy Aristotle,the same applied with Deafhood to the dawn of Man. Anyone can claim that Deafhood, Audism, etc doesn't exist in the dictionary, but we parents can't understand our kids with their slangs, creating a generation gap.Deafhood is something you will never understand until you experience it, I understand that you going through a period of self denial. Deaf as uneducated, English isn't their primary language, therefore felt inferior being stereotype as such. Deafread and Youtube shouldn't reinforce those myths.Therefore, we need fresh materials, not recycled trash.

These are the comments left on Deaf Anthology by the infamous Holism over the years, Holism laugh at some blogs that are satire about DBC, Deafhood, Ridor, etc. The only problem is when I do a satire about Holism, he really get pissed off.

Thank you too for your comment. Appreciated them.

Just wanted to state that there is a huge difference between Native American's version of spirituality and the so-called New Age movement. Just for the record, I'm against New Age movement simply because they're trying to re-invent the wheel, that of Medicine Wheel that were traditionally taught by the Native Americans. There is no need to re-invent the wheel even though there are some people out there who do make the effort to re-invent it anyway.

I recognized the disadvantage of using youtube as a platform for this type of discussion. It's why I posted this video at four different locations, with hope to open up a broader base for further discussion.

I do not necessarily agree with the need for a panel to discuss people's point of views simply because there are a lot of things that a panel will never understand, namely spirituality. Such topic is not easily covered because spiritual language are literally wordless. One can not easily describe or even discuss spiritual language.

And yes, I agree with you about the limitation of v/blog forum. We're using it the best we knew how, utilizing the very resource that's presently available and at our disposal. You also made a valid point stating that your discussion may be some what more relevant if you knew me personally. That could be true. I find it somewhat interesting to see how people think they're able to host intellectual discussion on the things that are spiritual. A very difficult task if you ask me.

Liberal background does not frighten a conservative like myself. It's usually the liberals that are spooked by the presence of conservative simply because they are the medium of what's radical right or a radical left. Ha ha... just being funny here.

Also was funny to read your analogy comparing my subjects with National Enquirers. Funny. I thought I blew Ridor into pieces some time ago so I was surprised to see his name mentioned next to mine once again. Ha ha...

Interesting interview! I enjoyed it. As you all can see, Jay said that DBC has never officially approached AG Bell with formalities. I found it rather odd for DBC to stage a rally and a protest against AG Bell without going through due process first. This is classic example of linear thinking on DBC's behalf. A costly rally could have been avoided if a simple letter was prepared for formal introduction and dialogue. Why didn't it happen? Simple answer. Ella and John and the rest of their group only understand Deafhood (movement to make hearing people look bad) and intimidation tactics.

It is clear that DBC need to restrategize itself and come clean with deaf people and everybody. Deafhood's poison has to go. It lead us on the wrong path towards linear approaches. Let's go circular.

Very interesting, at least the Deaf are talking about holism and reductionism, rather than Deafhood. The media can manipulate people opinions in the press, same way that some of us vloggers try to manipulate the Deaf community to conform to their ideas by stating things out of context. Deaf Anthology is just an entertainment venue, using sarcasm in its stories, on our outlook in life. Lighten up guys, that's the reason for the disclaimer is there, it kept us from going insane. I wish I had a counter in my hand to see how many times that Deafhood, D/d was discussed on our v/blogs. I remember at the Wisconsin Association of the Deaf (WAD)conference, circa 1979, that the Deaf was discussion the D/d issue, considering changing the by-laws. I am not desperate to score a point or two, just that this been going on for 35 years or so, long before DVTV is established, I have nothing personal against the Holism personality, just that it's time to look at ourselves, and realized that we are, indeed, a bunch of fools. Ever seen that alternative newspaper, The Onion, in Milwaukee. It is similar to Deaf Anthology with its unorthodox sense of humor. Someday, I hope someday we will come to our senses, and enjoy Deafread as it's originally meant to be, an exchange to information, but now it's us against them mentality. I was just trying to turn the table on Holism, hopefully he will realized the harm that's already been done.It's OK to take a stand on any particular viewpoint, or philosophy, but to be obsessive about it maybe unhealthy to our well-being.Yes, we need to look at ourselves in the mirror, and Deaf Anthology is not that mirror.
I am offering truce to get on with our lives.
