Deaf Anthology # 707: "Deaf Better Off Dead?"
Two Deaf brothers, Justin (age 7) and Zachary (age 11) died early this morning in a fire at their mobile home in Fort Mohave, Arizona. Source: InternetThe parents escaped with their two young daughters (age 2 & 4) and a 15 years old stepson and were treated at a local hospital and then released. The cause is now under investigation. Some of us can't help but wonder why the Deaf are sometimes the last to be rescued, aren't their life worth saving? Is there a pattern here that also happened elsewhere? Are the Deaf better off dead?
"Save the TV, leave my mother-in-law behind," I wouldn't be surprised if I overheard that quote.

Deaf Anthology # 706: "Sobriety"
You better watch outYou better not drink
Better not be high
I'm telling you why
Trooper is watching you
He's writing tickets
And checking for outstanding warrants;
Gonna find out Who's drunk and sober
Trooper is watching you
He sees you when you're driving
He knows when you're alert
He knows if you've been drunk or sober
So be good for goodness sake!
O! You better watch out!
You better watch out
Better not drink
I'm telling you why
Trooper is watching you
Trooper is watching you
Note: Drive safely, especially during New Year's Eve, one Deaf drunk driver died after hitting a guard rail. (picture)

Deaf Anthology # 705: Silence"
I wondering why in some metropolitan areas they have the so-called "silent dinner,'" once a month, as literally there are no such thing as students learning sign language are still chatting their way around the rules that are unenforceable, epesicially when ordering, yakking on their cell-phones, talking with their classmates, and to make matters worst, the Deaf using their oral skills whenever they are misunderstood. Why not just plain "ASL optional dinner," and why worry, any students that don't practice at the table are most likely not going to pass the course anyway. They are unaccountable as long as the ASL instructor isn't around. It is the Deaf that are silenced and left out of the conversation. However, the buffet was delicious!

Deaf Anthology # 704: "Kitchen"
Ever seen these commercials, the latest gadgets to make life easier, all with one purpose in mind, making a quick buck, inventing something that may seem ridiculous at best, but they are laughing their way to the bank, knowing that we Deaf are vulnerable, wanting to be the first on the block to own such a thing as the device that stir itself in the pan while cooking. We are already couch potatoes and so why encourage our sedentary lifestyle when obesity is a major problem in America, as I am one of them.

Deaf Anthology # 703: "Gifts"
It's Christmas morning, a Deaf kid exciting, jumped out of bed before dawn, opening up the gifts under the tree, his parents bought him a new digital hearing-aid with blue earmold, older brother bought him a boombox, uncle got him a set of drums, other things like a clock radio with an wake-up alarm, and to make matters worst, private piano lessons, with everything audio in nature while his siblings got everything they wanted, from a XBox to IPods. Every year it's the same, they are trying to make him hearing as part of their world. Doesn't Santa understands that he is a normal kid that wanted toys to play with. That Deaf kid went back upstairs to bed and cried under the pillow and wondering why the world doesn't accept him as he is, not looking forward to a ham dinner where the only signs are that of a cross after grace. The Christmas spirit once again silenced.

Deaf Anthology # 699: "Conspiracy"
10. I saw Ridor's vlog on the Al-Jazeera channel with Arabic subtitles.
9. The only thing indestructible is Dick Cheny's pacemaker.
8. Ridor unknowable bought the "black box" as a scratching post for "Blacklist" from the local pawn shop.
7. I thought Dick Cheny orchestrated the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center.
6. Ridor sold off all his Halliburton stocks after he got out for insider trading.
5. Government retaliates, putting Ridor on the no fly list, disappointing gay TSA screeners.
4. (deleted by the Department of Homeland Security, classified materials, Deaf Anthology apologized for the inconvenience)
3. You can see Ridor with the Stinger (SAM) at the Pentagon in the fifth frame.
2. Ridor agreed to a wrestling match with Jesse Ventura at the Richmond Coliseum.
1. Ridor finally "Jump the Sharks!"
Anyway, sarcasm set aside, Ridor is a very intelligent individual, despite his reputations which is of no concern to me, what we are lacking in the Deaf cyperphere, is a venue for real time debate on these controversial issues, with a neutral moderator, acceptable to both sides and the general Deaf audience out there. Topic and questions selected beforehand will allows us time to research and be prepared, opportunities to present the evidences and to rebuke the theories at hand. Being engaged in a discussion by leaving a comment on Youtube just isn't enough, and we need to take it from there.
A final thought, I think WikiLeaks have a backup copy of the missing $2.3 trillion documentation somewhere.
Note: These comments can't be posted on Ridor's vlog because of Youtube limitation of five hundred or so characters, so I'll just leave a link. (It's been flagged as spam, reason unknown, probably from attempting to copy and paste.)

Deaf Anthology # 687: "Dance"
Let's assume that you are at a party, radio on full-blast, everyone having a good time, and how will you response when your hearing friends are asking you why are your Deaf friends dancing to the news. Deaf can feel the vibrations, but can they sense the differences between music and news, commercials, and other stuff. Better off going to a bar where they have a disc-jockey to avoid the embarrassment.

Deaf Anthology # 696: "Ferry"
I am in a mood to do something different today, so despite the harsh cold weather, I decided to take a ferry across Long Island Sound, on the MV P.T. Barnum, from Bridgeport, Connecticut to Port Jefferson, an one hour and fifteen minutes trip, to go to the Roosevelt Field Mall, crowded with those making last-minute Christmas shopping. It sure beat the hassles of driving there via NYC, avoiding the traffic. Relax in the lounge and enjoy a football game with a drink. The experience will set you back $51, I think if you are planning such a trip during the summer, I would recommend doing it on Lake Michigan using the new modern, high-speed Lake Express (video) from Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Muskegon, Michigan; 70 miles in 2 1/2 hours. When is the best time, Deaf Anthology suggest doing it during the 2013 Harley-Davidson reunion (110th Anniversary), Deaf bikers anyone!

Deaf Anthology # 693: "Christmas"
We can understand how these Deaf kids felt when they are home during the holidays, sure they got their own list of what they want from Santa, but still they are isolated, unable to enjoy the holidays when they couldn't communicate with their own parents that can't sign, just pretending along, counting the days to when they will be back with their Deaf friends back at school.
Deaf Anthology # 691: "Gallaudet Syndrome"
Since Ryan Commerson bought up the subject. My conclusion is that the Gallaudet syndrome does exist, there is no doubts about it whatsoever because it can be proven in the real world using common sense, based on our observance. Let's make a comparison for that matter, the white collars and the blue collars; the white collars are often professionals, like here in this case, Gallaudet Deaf professors and administration, they follow a certain behavior pattern on the job as being self conscious and authoritative in carrying out their tasks, and the only way to do that is to be impersonal. They tends to be more English oriented but at the Deaf functions, they can be the life of the party, being themselves using ASL naturally. It's an interesting research into Deaf sociology, Gallaudet syndrome will be an excellent master thesis worth exploring into. On the other hand, the blue collars, Deaf employees with the physical plant, are often look down as if they are on the bottom rung of the ladder, doesn't have any restraint impose on them, as they are more ASL oriented, the hell who cares about the Deaf plumber who fixed a faulty water fountain at HMB, the behaviors on and off campus are just the same, so the Gallaudet syndrome doesn't apply to them, so they are freely expressive as there is no standards to adhere to.Let's take this case as an example, we Deaf postal employees chat with each others all the time on the workroom floor (often leaving our unit) and on breaks, life can be great until one of us became a red badge (supervisor), and that Deaf who got promoted can make your life miserable giving you discipline for calling in sick because he knows very well that you are at the Deaf bowling tournament, start asking you to stop chatting and do your job. The Deaf become uncomfortable with him, despite all these years we have been buddies. How you behave on the job is that your livelihood depends on it, who cares what you do in real life, that's your business, maybe you won't invite that supervisor who once were your friend to the poker game.
Kids are the same, they asked their parents to drop them off a block from the mall as they dreaded to be seen by their friends.
I can cited examples after examples, the Gallaudet syndrome does exist in the real world in the form of a white and blue collars friction in our society.
Maybe some bloggers will criticized Ryan but his concerns are legitimate, even coming up with a new label to describe this particular phenomenon within our Deaf culture, that already exists in our progressive civilization since the dawn of Man.

Deaf Anthology # 687: "Existialism"
One Deaf vlogger just posted the "Sleeping Mode," challenging us if we are living a life or we just exist, nothing more than the same routine day in and day out. His discussion reminds me of a movie I saw two decades ago, "Joe Versus the Volcano," an existialism comedy film starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. The plot is that Joe, a hypochondriac, thinking he's dying, willing to get out of the rat race, accepting an offer to become a human sacrifice to save the Waponis tribes by jumping into a live volcano to show that he has finally accomplished something in life, saving the island from sinking into the ocean. Here is some quotes I've selected from the movie which I think confirmed what Barry Sewell been discussing.Dr. Ellison: And what did you do in the fire department?
Dr. Ellison: You have some time left, Mr. Banks. You have some life left. My advice to you is: live it well.
Patricia: Nobody knows anything, Joe. We'll take this leap, and we'll see. We'll jump, and we'll see. That's life, right?
Patricia: My father says that almost the whole world is asleep. Everybody you know. Everybody you see. Everybody you talk to. He says that only a few people are awake and they live in a state of constant total amazement.
Patricia: I'm soul sick.
So let's wrap it up, once thing for sure I didn't slept through his vlog, but I want to point out that since the dawn of Man, we are often baffled by this question, "Why are we here? and "What is the purpose of life?"

Ever watch that "Cash Cab," on TV where you have an opportunity to win cash answering questions on your way to your destination. I was just thinking; why not have the "Bail Car," in which a criminal arrested have an opportunity answer questions, in an NYC Police squad car, on their way to jail, and if they got it all right, bail is posted and they are back on the streets again.

Deaf Anthology # 685: "Audism at Gallaudet"
When Catherine Murphy was a media coordinator with AG Bell, she is just doing her job, it doesn't necessarily means that she is an audist, she was the one who granted Deaf Anthology exclusive interview with its President Jay Wyant. Ruthie Jordan did the interview, the questions are general and non-confrontational, while DBC was protesting outside demanding that "the wall be taken down," during that summer in Milwaukee. (Ruthie Jordan, a NTID film graduate, later established AFA). There are two sides of every issues, Deaf Anthology attempts to present AG Bell reaction to DBC without being biased in its reporting. WASHINGTON, DC – November 23, 2010 – Gallaudet University today announced the selection of Catherine Murphy as the 146-year-old institution's new executive director of public and media relations.
Murphy brings extensive experience to the position, most recently as director of communications and public affairs for the Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. In that capacity, she represented the association on a variety of deaf and hard of hearing advocacy coalitions, including as co-chair of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Alliance, as well as before media representatives, and members of Congress and their staffs.
In her new role, Murphy will oversee the university’s communications functions, including its media relations efforts, print and electronic publications, and related website content and marketing activities.
“Gallaudet has always held a special place in my family,” said Murphy whose brother is deaf and a former student of the university. “It’s an honor to be selected for this important and visible position and I look forward to being a part of the university’s continued growth and success.”

Deaf Anthology # 684: "Milk Bones"
These dogs with anxiety are more of a threat to us on board our aircraft's than terrorism, TSA didn't pat them down as they went through screenings, where were the armed US Marshall when a flight attendant was bitten. The US Airways pilot had to make an emergency landing at the nearest runway with a fire hydrant. The airlines needs to review their policy as we don't need to put up with all that barking. I knew something like this would happen when they cut back on serving chocolate chips and milk bones.

I ain't thinking about the white tiger at the national zoo nor the old Esso commercial of putting a tiger in your tank nor having a cereal with a tiger at breakfast. I am aware that tigers are one of the endangered species in the wild, and may be heading toward extinction like that one we all follow on the golf course. Tiger just missed a putt a playoff , the season is over, let's watch that replay again on the 18Th hole, but there is always next year, another chance for a great comeback.

Deaf Anthology # 681: "Fines"
Just read that New Yorkers owe the city over $700 millions. That's just one city alone, can you just imagine the total would be if we combined all of our nation's parking tickets together, and let the federal government collect them all, and maybe that would be enough to pay off China to reduce our national debt. The only way to eliminate our debts is to prohibit earmarks, reform torts, seek reimbursements from those who abuses the system, welfare and medicare frauds, corrupted foreign governments, unaccountable defense and infrastructure contractors, and unproductive warfare that are draining our resources. The gridlock in Washington is putting our American dream on hold, a cup of tea won't do.

Deaf Anthology # 680: "Rapture"
One after another, someone predicted the end of the world, and yet we're still here. Driving up Interstate 95, Bridgeport, is this billboard, someone claiming that the "rapture" will occur on May 21, 2011, the second coming of Christ. Just recently saw the open-captioned version of 2012 and now this. The pastors on our pulpits are no worse than the boys who cried wolves, implanting doubts in us and leaving us unprepared for the upcoming judgement. These pastors should report their suspicious to the police of a "theft in the night." Shouldn't I worry, it should be over in a blink of an eye. Just pray that it doesn't happen on your clock.

Deaf Anthology # 678: "Amir-Garib (India)"
ASL Films and Mark Wood is well known here in America. What about other countries in the world, like in India where "Amir=Garib" just recently premiered in India. One blog mentioned a press release but I ain't going to stop there and starting searching the Internet and found a trailer for the movie. It's impossible that the recent WDCF will screen hundreds but a select few, perhaps it should be a mission of Deaf Anthology to seek them out and embedded their videos on our blogs so that the Deaf Americans be aware that there are Deaf talents everywhere in this world that we haven't yet had an opportunity to see them but to appreciate their efforts.

These police shows you seen on television nowadays tends to be major cities like NYC and LA. Just saw on a news that a real life cop and criminal, although they hated each other initially, has agreed to work together to write for a pilot episode of "Second District," drawing on their experiences in the North End section of Hartford, Connecticut. Found this trailer on Youtube, although not closed-captioned, looks like a hit, now seeking a network to distribute it on the airways. Yes, there are gangs in Hartford, no cities in America are immune.
