Deaf Anthology # 609: "Education"

I think our Deaf institutions are wasting their time teaching English, we should start with only ASL in the elementary grades, their first language and put a great deal of emphasis on popular culture before introducing English in the middle schools. I know it is a radical approach to Deaf education, but the fact is that we'll never understand the English language without a background in our popular culture, doesn't that make any sense as we explore it in this controversial video that may spark debates among us. Anyway, a good way to start off the first day of fall with a topic worthy of discussion. Secondly I do not claim to be an expert as I never went out for a MA nor a PHD in Deaf Education as I couldn't afford it without DVR support or scholarships, I respect the BiBi philosophy being practiced in some of our Deaf schools, the opinions I expressed on this blog is that of my own, not to disrupt the status quo but to perhaps reevaluate our education system as a whole, I know some may not be comfortable with my liberal viewpoints on these matter but at least we can exercise our freedoms without fears of being ridiculed, while treating everyone else with due respect.
