Deaf Anthology # 567: "Neighbors"

"They were perfect neighbors...," Alex's wife holding back tears, "...I just can't believe that my husband would...there you have it, refusing to accept further questioning from reporters at the scene, let's go to our newsroom where Diane have the latest report."
According to police sources, at 2 pm this afternoon, the suspect, Alex, shot and killed his Deaf neighbor, Tom, after receiving an eviction notice on his foreclosed home. His wife mentioned that her husband was jealous of Tom, thinking that the Deaf are taking advantages of the system, giving us the following reasons.
The stress of having to take care of his children, taking them to soccer games and all that while Tom's Deaf children are away at an institution, providing care, meals, activities at state expenses. We got to eat and putting bread on the table are expensive.
Alex was struggling to keep up with the mortgage payments after being laid off recently, while his meager unemployment benefits ran out. Tom being Deaf, live comfortably off SSI, rented his home with HUD subsidiary. Tom was able to travel with his family, recently to Las Vegas for the Deafnation World Expo. Alex haven't had a vacation for years. The only entertainment is that of renting the latest DVD from Redbox. They just repossessed Alex's car for nonpayment, Tom bought his car with cash he won at poker with friends. When Alex had a cookout, he will buy the steaks while Tom bought the beers. Alex lost his health insurance and unable to afford an operation to remove a polyp that was discovered just before he got the pink slip. Tom goes to the emergency room whenever he got a scratch. Alex always kept his anger under control, while being cool, over the years until today when Tom started complaining that the government isn't doing enough for us Deaf. "That it, I've had it, and I ain't taking any more of this... (explicit)," going downstairs to take out his shotgun to kill Tom on the spot before taking his own life.
