Hearing people get free tickets to movies, concerts, museums, theme parks, etc. All they have to do is listen to a radio program, and show up at a location wherever they may be. They drive around town making stops to promote their station. Their personalities give out freebies, so why are the Deaf left out. We don't listen to radios. I envied my friends going to see the latest Leonardo DiCaprio film, Milus Cyrus or Justin Bieber concerts, State Fairs, zoos and museums, and even to theme parks such as 6 Flags with their waterparks. Hearing people are having a good time, and we Deaf are not given equal access to participate. Don't the radio station ever thought of setting aside tickets for us by donating them to a local Deaf organization. I ask one such outlet, Alabama Adventure, for free tickets, but they don't care, stating that they have already given out the complimentary tickets for the National Night Out, where Target stores, the official sponsor, give out tickets, and the local radio station on the stage will announce the winners, and even if any Deaf are in the park, they don't bother to stick around since their no interpreter at the event. There is no way you going to become the 50th caller to the station to win a prize because by the time the relay connect you up, they have already got a winner. If the tickets are given to a local disability group, you can bet they won't share them with you, preferring their own kind. "I'm not going to Disney World!," got the message?
This is Smokey, stay tuned for the next episode of Deaf Anthology. Good night, Deaf America!
