Just read an article that there are over 600,000 kids in foster care (Deaf statistics unavailable), but 70% are separated from at least one sibling. Life isn't fair, so our society doesn't care about us, the social workers just doing their job, paperwork done, we lost sight of our responsibilities to keep families together. There is hope on the horizon, siblings are being reunited with their lost brothers and sisters at these summer camps, "Camp To Belong," enjoying their childhood together, at least for the time being, having fun, with all the excitements that come along with it, campfire, swimming, horseback ridings, etc. There are eight camp locations from Washington state to Maine, staff mostly volunteers. Make me wonder if there ever were any Deaf siblings separated into two different environment, both ASL and oral household. Anyone done through that experience, I'll never know. Again, I repeat, life is unfair.
