Just a reminder, read the warnings above before you read this blog:
Note: Deaf Sherlock is very concern about this blog that it may cause confusion among us, it is a controversial blog as all stories are fictional, Deaf Anthology can be known as the National Lampoon of Deafread, SSI is a sensitive matter, let's just imagine that if we were a Congressmen, how would we write up a bill, will it ever leave the committee, did we let our views be known, does it have the votes on the floor of the House and Senate, will the President sign it or veto it. What input you have, what will the final version of the bill be like. Deaf Anthology sole purpose on Deafread is entertainment, nothing else, the only limitations is creativity. You have a right to complaint to Deafread, to flag this post, Deafread have placed this blog under the Art and Storytelling category.

According to Congressional sources, the Senate is considering a bill, SSA Reform Act of 2008 (S-4516) that will cut off SSI to millions of disabled Americans, unfortunately that includes us Deaf, that depends on it for their livelihood. They have a new formula, set at 56% of federal minimum wage law in effect, which is expected to save billions and reduce our national debt. This is how it works, the federal minimum wage at $7.25, therefore effectively within 90 days after passage, the average Deaf family on SSI will see their monthly checks reduced to $649.60. Congress is now in recess, so it's a good time make your objections known. Here's a summary of how it will affect our lives, each family on SSI will get only one check, no more that both a husband and wife and each individual child getting a check. Married couple get an average monthly check of $1,160 regardless of how many children they have. All families will be treated equally, get the same amount. There have been abuses of the system whereas they get pregnant for only one reason, the more kids you have, the more the taxpayers supported your alcoholism or drug habit, while your children go hungry, the only way we can be productive citizens is to be sober. The government will provide vouchers for child care at approved facilities. HUD will requires that 35% income as rent payments, thus savings billions which can go to developmental funds to created more Deaf seniors housing. Food stamps and subsidized universal health care are also available. All SSI clients will be required to participate in job training programs to obtain employment within two years, or lose the benefits. Yes, it is possible to get a waiver, one can be placed in a sheltered workshop such those at Goodwill. Once disqualified, Deaf will not be allowed to reapply for benefits 5 years, so they will be at the mercy of the local welfare office and other state programs such as Medicaid. The government is trying to get the Deaf off the bowling lanes to reduce our unemployment rates which range from 2.8 (South Dakota) to 8.5% (Michigan). The government is there to help the people who deserve them, not for people to take advantages of our government. Once you get a job, you will continue to get SSI benefits for 90 days, the average probationary period, not 9 months. We are awaiting a report from the Government Accounting Office (GAO) on how it impact our fiscal year budget. A new public service entity, similiar to Americorps, will be established that will provide paid internship until job placement. The infrastructions of our nation needs to be taken care of, improvements can be made so we can live in a better society. Source: Congressional Records (GPO).

I do not want to sound mean, but I am glad. I really have been disappointed with majority of deaf people who claims that being deaf is not a disability, telling me to embrace the Deaf Culture. But these same people would then be on SSI, which is for people with disablilty, SO Which is it? Deaf a disability or not?

I never met a Deaf person or family on SSI that could work. I mean they really did have the ability to work. I was born profoundly deaf, I managed to get through school and college. I work and never had SSI.

No More Free Rides to all those who been taking advantage of the system. Maybe now is the time you to go back to school and brush up on your skills before this law goes into effect.

DEAF People can WORK!!!! They need to get out of the house and look for a job.
I have seen too many DEAF People doing nothing! I am sure there are some jobs that are available for you folks. It does not have to be the President or CEO of a company. I need to pop your dream bubble.

Dear Blogger:
Several bloggers have asked me to investigate you on this post that you wrote about the "Write to your congressman to protest SSI cuts".

I ask you to please take down this post because it is confusing and irresponsible to post this type of an information. Though you write some great fictional stories, this is one that is very sensitive to the deaf community and it's SSI.

So after checking the congressional record and seeing your story is a fake, I'm asking this on behalf of others, Please take down this post. Confusion should not happen in the deaf community. Especially when some of us depend on SSI very much.

Thank you.
Sherlock Steve.

SSI is a sensitive issue among the deaf community. I don't like the word you use, "Deaf people depend on SSI". Deaf and hard of hearing chose to depend on SSI. There are ways to get jobs. In America, there are thousands of opporunity. I strongly believe that we can earn wages only if you work hard for it. Like people state "You have to work to earn it". Now it's time to get to work!

Deaf people are capable of working that's a no brainier. Here's the problem, How are we able to work if nobody wants to hire deaf people. You need to consider that most places will not hire a deaf or disabled person. We can work but employers do not want to hire us therefore that's why we need to rely on SSI. It's immigrants who abuse SSI, they come to the country and apply for SSI and then Never work or pay taxes. If a deaf person finds a job chances are that it's a low paying one which is why SSI is needed. Most of the time deaf people will face discrimination from employers forcing them to quit working because of poor treatment. It's not because we abuse SSI it's because the government treats us like CRAP.
