Deaf Anthology # 53: "Twilight Deafzone"

Boston (DEF): "Cindy, local lesbian have filed a lawsuit against the Boston Cryobank, that she claims provides the defective sperm , through artificial insemination, that resulted in birth of a Deaf baby. A Boston legal firm argued that the product was defective and the Boston Cryobank is liable, and that Massachusetts consumer protection laws requires that all manufactures have a quality assurance (QA) program in place. After deliberation, the judge dismiss the lawsuit as frivolous, the Boston Cryobank are required only to screen potential sperm donors for any diseases such as cystic fibrosis, gonorrhea, hepatitis, HIV, etc. There is no evidence whatsoever that the sperm donor is Deaf, however state statues prevents such discrimination. The child was taken away by child welfare officials and placed in a Deaf foster home. Secondly, Boston Cryobank are exempted from the QA requirements, as the baby is a human being, not a product. The judge also note that she signed a waiver."

Smokey: "There is a fifth dimension beyond that are known to the Deaf. A dimension that involves time and space with no known boundaries somewhere between light and shadow, between science and superstition, the Deaf fears the unknown, despite our knowledge. This dimension is our imagination as you enters the Twilight Deafzone."

Joan: "What is she going to do, sue God."

John: "I heard from the grapevine that she is planning to adopt a child."

Jason: "She's on Oprah now!"

Oprah: "I see you adopted a healthy baby, do you reqret your decision to return the product to the store."

Cindy: "That's it!" (Cindy left the stage feeling insulted)

Oprah: "She's a lowlife, she will never understand that love is unconditional."

Fertility expert: "Oprah, I don't think she ever taken in account of having a recessive gene..."

Oprah: "Our next guest is a surrogate mother, now we go to commercial."

Commercial: It's night, a Coca-Cola truck roaming downtown, apparently lost, spotting a Deaf local."

Deaf driver: "Where's Bob's gas station?" (drinking Pepsi)

Local: "I know Bob, the Deaf owner, it's the Mobil just down the street on your right."

John: "Don't we have enough of these Bob commercials."

Joan: "That Cindy, she is a bitch..."

Jeffrey: "Mom, what's a bitch..."

Jason: "I'll explain to you later."

Boston (DEF): "Here's an update on Cindy, remember three years ago, we reported that she lost a lawsuit against Boston Cryobank, after giving birth to a defective Deaf baby. This morning, the child she adopted was taken to Boston Children's Hospital ER, where she was diagnose with meningitis, a viral infection. Police arrested her leaving the hospital for child abandonment after doctor told her that the child became Deaf as a result. The Deaf child was then taken away by child welfare officials, taken in by the same foster Deaf family that adopted the first Deaf child that Cindy gave birth to." (Cindy posted bail, court will have a preliminary hearing next month)

John: "Oprah was right, she will never learn what unconditional love is."

Jason: "Strike two!"

Joan: "God curse her."

Jeffrey: "She's a bitch."

Joan: "Jeffrey..."

Boston (DEF): "There have been an accident on Interstate 95, a motorcyclist, collided with a median barrier, ambulance arrives on the scene within minutes, but was taken by Lifeflight Helicopter to local hospital, police sources revealed the identity the female, Cindy, the same woman that have given us exclusive interviews in the past, losing the lawsuit over a defective Deaf baby, and giving up the child she adopted that became Deaf after a bout of meningitis. Hospital officials, citing patients privacy laws, have no comments, except to say that she is in critical condition. Sources tells us she was recently in treatment for alcoholism, as a result of depression..."

Cindy: "Where am..."

Deaf Dr. Thomas: "I'm sorry that you lost your hearing as a result of the accident." (writing on clipboard)

Cindy: "No, God..." (monitor beeping, she does into cardiac arrest, a nurse attempts CPR, taken to ICU)

Boston (DEF): "Cindy, the female motorcyclist taken by Lifeflight, died early this morning of cardiac arrest, just moments after her doctor told her that she became Deaf from injuries suffered in the accident on Interstate 95, she was in the ..."

Joan: "Lord have mercy."

Jason: "Strike three, she's out!"

Jeffrey: "She's a bitch"

Joan: "Jeffrey..."

Smokey: "We haven't point out that the Deaf Dr. Thomas, put a DNR (do not resuscitate) order on Cindy's file, that he came forward to adopt both children. The question now is what would become of her if she did indeed survived, that's the unknown, let's leave it at that, as we departs the Twilight Deafzone."
