Jesus went to Decapolis, met a Deaf beggar, and said "Ephphatha!" (Mark 7:34)
Let's deafinized this verse, let's assume that Jesus needs an interpreter, the Deaf beggar would be a good one. Is there a need for one, if Jesus himself can sign?
Let's assume that this Deaf beggar is an oral Deaf, rather than restored his hearing, Jesus gave him the knowledge to uses sign language.
Jesus have many disciples, are the Deaf among them.
Decapolis is an area, now Jordan, one of the cities were Philadelphia, now Amman. "Ephphatha!" is an Aramaic (Arabic) word, "open."
Saul (Paul) was on his way to Damascus (Syria), after witness the martyrdom (death) of Stephen, the resurrected Jesus appears to him, "Why are you persecuting me?"
(Acts 9:4)
Thinking of Stephen, were there any Deaf martyrs."
Paul was blind three days until he met Anania, he could have been Deaf three days instead.
Does this confirmed our thinking that being Blind was worst than being Deaf.
What if Jesus appears to A.G. Bell, questioned, "Why are you persecuting our Deaf children?
Were there any Deaf among the disciples in Antioch (Syria) when they first became known as Christians? (Acts 11:26)
The disciples tries to prevent Deaf children to approach Jesus, but Jesus let them, as they are included in the Kingdom of God. (Mark 10:14) The church nowadays take pride in their support of missionaries around the world, but choose not to spread the gospel to the Deaf in their own neighborhood.
How does Jesus deals with those with audistic attitudes. Jesus will not know them because what they do to their Deaf brothers, they also do so to him. (Matthew 25:40) Spiritual oppression was already discussed in Deaf Anthology #32: "Deaf Revival."
Margaret Mead, anthropologist, stated that sign language is universal. That could be the case until Babel (Babylon, Iraq), perhaps there were some Deaf involved in its construction, the tower were destroyed and everyone couldn't understand each others, as we split into several languages, but we Deaf still could communicate with gestures. The people attempted to reach heavens, but there has to be another way. (Genesis 11:8) As an afterthought, are we trying to make sign language universal using Gestuno?
If the flood was before Babel, naturally only one language, that of Noah.
There are a few genealogies in the Bible, from Adam onward, any Deaf among them? (Genesis 5:1)
We know that Jesus died on the Cross between two thieves, is there any Deaf that been crucified, been persecuted, thrown to the Lions den?
Joan: "Wait up boys, time to get up, it's Easter, we're going to Church."
Jason and Jeffrey: "Mom, can we sleep in?"
John: "You heard your Mom, we only do this twice a year." (family arrives at a local Deaf Reformed Church)
Deaf Pastor Paul: It's good to see you all here as today we celebrates the resurrection of our Lord, Jesus. As you know, many of us Deaf never get to know Jesus, that why we have no peace in ourselves, so let's keep things simple, church are people, rather than socialized, we fellowship, rather than gossips, we support each others, rather than depending on our pastors to deal with our problems, we put our trust in the Lord and let him take care of the matter, we are all born with sin, blame it on a woman, Eve, not that, sin is the only thing that separates us from God, that's why God sends his only son, God loves us and wants us Deaf to join his family. There are two things we got in common, that's tax and death, can't avoid either. Jesus asked Peter to take a coin out of the fish mouth to pay the temple tax, he also died on the cross, to pay off our debts (sins), but on the third day, Jesus is Alive, Pah! This gives us hope of external life (John 3:16), no need to make a decision now, let God convince you and welcome you to his kingdom, Amen!
John: "Pastor, good thing this is a Deaf church that no one notice that I was snoring through your sermon, but I was awaken, tapped on the back, as if someone is trying to tell me something."
Deaf Pastor Paul: "That was the Holy Spirit, it appears that God have choosen you, Just admit that you are a sinner (repent), accept Jesus into your life (believe), and follow him (faith)."
Jason and Jeffrey: "We made bread basket in Sunday School to feed those who are hungry."
